Threat Hero Notes
1
Mercy In an isolated situation, you shouldn't have much trouble dealing with Mercy. She's capable of flying away with the support of teammates around her, but that's about it. It'll be difficult trying to kill Mercy in Valkyrie Mode (Ult), due to her ability to fly, which poses a range problem. She also regenerates health at a fairly faster pace during Valkyrie. Overall, you'll want to be heavily targeting Mercy before she activates her ult Valkyrie.
2
Lúcio A little annoying to kill because of his Health/Movement boost, but certainly doable. Try to keep your focus on Lucio during critical moments as his Ultimate buys time for his team.
3
Orisa Fairly minimal threat due to her serious lack of mobility and her rather large hitbox. Tracer's capable of blinking or recalling out of her "Halt!" ability (Mini-Graviton Surge). Prioritize getting rid of her drum when she ults.
4
Bastion Be aware of him, or he'll delete you. He's most effective in his Sentry mode. You're very capable of dealing with him in this mode since he's immobile, especially with your Ultimate.
4
Symmetra Be cautious of Blinking into rooms with a Symmetra on the opposing team. Avoid getting within very close proximity of her, as she's capable of dealing some serious damage. Her Hold + Right Click ability's rather slow so they're easy to dodge, but super deadly if you manage to get hit by a fully charged one. Look for and take out those turrets, teleporters and shield generators as much as possible when playing Tracer since you can get behind the back line fairly easily.
4
Zarya Zarya can't touch you, take advantage of your mobility as Tracer. Avoid shooting Zarya shields. Do not underestimate a charged up Zarya, as she's capable of deleting you with her Left Click ability. You're NO LONGER capable of Recalling and Blinking out of her Ultimate.
4
Zenyatta You're quite capable of handling Zenyatta in a one versus one situation, even if he Discord Orbs you. But if it isn't a One v One situation and you get Discorded, play with more caution.
5
D.Va Kiting's your best friend here. She's simply not fast enough to keep up with you, so avoid being stationary. Pulse Bombs are easy to apply when she's in Mech Form. Her ultimate's capable of being avoided with a well timed Recall ( Or ye know, just get behind something. Kappa).
5
Mei Mei's very vulnerable after activating her Cryo-Freeze (Shift) ability. Her Left Click ability is a little underwhelming for you as you're capable of kiting away from it with Blink, but Mei's capable of chunking you with her Right Click ability, so try to avoid being stationary and predictable. As Tracer, you're capable of Blinking/ Recalling out of the way during the beginning moments of a Mei ultimate.
5
Reinhardt Avoid being stationary for this match up. Reinhardt is very easy to kite, but if you get caught, whether it be through getting pinned or Earthshattered, you're more than likely dead. Even simply getting hit once by his hammer should be enough to warn you of Reinhardt's serious damage capabilities. He isn't too hard to Pulse Bomb because of his slow movement speed, just avoid Pulse Bombing the shield. Your best bet involves typically approaching him from behind for a Pulse Bomb or waiting for his shield to go down.
5
Torbjörn His short range damage capabilities are nothing to sneeze at, as well as his turret damage. But he's super vulnerable without a turret up, therefore you're capable of taking him out because of your kiting abilities. Respect a maxed out Molten Cored Turret, you don't quite have an answer for those. Level 1 turrets can be dealt with easily. Level 2 turrets will need a little more work, but it's certainly not impossible.
5
Tracer Prepare for some Cat & Mouse games for this match up. You'll have to be aware of opposing Tracers. Tracer's are lethal if you don't see 'em coming. Theoretically, the first Tracer to use Recall in this match up is at a disadvantage. I wouldn't recommend prioritizing an opposing Tracer, but more power to you if you take em out.
5
Sombra It's all about awareness on this one. You're more than capable of dueling a Sombra. Her main threat is her Right Click 'Hack Ability'. Don't let her hack you! You should have the upper hand in this one based on your mobility. Have Recall at your disposal in case you happen to lose a fair amount of health during a duel versus a Sombra.
5
Moira A good Moira can be quite the hassle to deal with. Try to be aware of the abilities that are on cool down before attempting to duel her. Confronting a Moira while she has her heal and escape (Shift) at her disposal is no easy task.
6
Hanzo Proceed with care when confronting Hanzo, you don't want to be too predictable/linear. Don't get in close quarters with a Hanzo, he has a huge advantage in little rooms/hallways because of Scatter Arrow. Unlike Widowmaker, he doesn't have to reload. Use your Blinks for dodging purposes while inflicting damage.
6
Pharah Be aware of her. You don't have an exact way of dealing with her while she's airborne, but she doesn't pose much of a threat to you due to your mobility. She's fairly vulnerable near or on ground, and when she activates her ultimate Rocket Barrage. These are your best chances of killing a Pharah. Don't underestimate her damage.
6
Reaper Reaper does massive damage up close so you'll need to respect that. Shoot from a fair distance, just don't get near his shotguns! He's quite vulnerable after using Wraith Form (Shift). AVOID his ultimate. Care for Reaper flanks from above or behind during crucial moments, as he'll most likely want to use his ultimate, Deathblossom. You're capable of shooting him during his ultimate from a safe distance.
6
Widowmaker You do not wanna be on the receiving end of a headshot. Please be aware of an opposing Widowmaker. After that, take her out! Be wary of a Venom Mine. Try to constantly get behind her. You're too quick for her if you get fairly near her. Close combat's ALWAYS your best bet against Widow.
6
Winston Fairly even match up in my opinion. I personally believe Tracer has the edge due to having more mobility. It might take a good portion of your kit, but it's very possible to outplay him. Avoid shooting the shield when you're being confronted by a Winston, continually focus on him while kiting. Having Recall at your disposal is crucial, especially if you need to regain lost health.
6
Ana Ana's easily the toughest support to deal with as Tracer considering you have to be fairly close to deal sufficient damage. Her Sleep Dart and her heal grenade's capable of stalling a duel, and also quite frankly capable of taking you out. It's ideal you're aware of whether or not her Sleep Dart's on Cooldown. If it lands, you're most likely dead. If Sleep Dart's down, you'll be able to be more aggressive. Ana heavily lacks in mobility.
7
Genji Avoid shooting him when he has Deflect up. Don't let him get you low enough to the point where he's able to finish you off with his Swift Strike (Shift) ability. You'll definitely need Recall at your disposal to have the upper hand on this one. Genji's also capable of deflecting Pulse Bomb, careful!
7
Soldier: 76 You don't want a prolonged fight with 76. His sustain and Helix Rocket damage is nothing to laugh at. He's vulnerable once the Rocket or the Heal's down. Simply try to avoid dueling Soldier while his heal is active, unless he's fairly low and you're confident you can finish him off.
7
Doomfist Doomfist is no pushover in regards to raw damage output. You'll want to be very aware of whether or not his Rocket Punch ability is up. Be aware of his positioning as often as possible. You'll be good as dead if you're struck by this ability. Especially if you're in front of a wall or obstacle due to Tracer's low health pool. He's a rather large hero with little defensive capabilities which makes him one of the easier heroes on the roster to land shots on. Doomfist is especially reliant on his abilities therefore making him extremely vulnerable when his abilities are down, specifically Rocket Punch.
8
Junkrat J-Rat can be absolutely annoying if you're not proceeding with care. You'll want to be very wary of traps. Getting caught in one of these is one of the worst thing that can happen to Tracer. If you happen to step on one, you're more than likely dead. His Concussion Mine is great for close-ranged brawls against you, play it safe. Get rid of the trap, and don't get too close. J-Rat's very vulnerable if you catch him in the process of using his Rip Tire.
9
Roadhog Roadhogs main move against you is that hook, get caught and you're as good as dead. You'll certainly want to be kiting as often as possible against the Hog. Try predicting or even baiting hooks since he becomes vulnerable when his hook's on cool down. He's capable of inflicting a ton of damage from a close range if his aim's on point, so you'll have to respect that.
10
McCree You'll have to be aware of where McCree is at all times as he's one of your biggest threats. Avoid carelessly confronting McCree if you're unsure whether or not he has Flashbang at his disposal. You're capable of baiting Flashbang. He isn't as difficult to deal with once Flashbang is out of the way, but he's still just as deadly with his accurate 6-shooter. A very patient and accurate McCree is capable of making you switch off Tracer.

Hey there guys, I'm PrinceMO. Tracer's by far my favorite Hero to play in Overwatch. Hopefully this guide helps you learn a little more about her.

I'm mainly writing this to share my knowledge about my favorite Hero. I'll be specifically going over her match-ups, along with how I'd recommend playing her in each game mode. As this'll be my first guide ever, please feel free to share your opinions concerning the guide. This includes something you don't agree with, or find inaccurate. It'll really help me and future visitors. Hope you enjoy!

Tracer's role on Overwatch is offense. Equipped with rapid-firing Pulse Pistols and a rather flashy kit, she's definitely a character to try out! Tracer's speed is her most notable aspect. She's currently the fastest Hero in the game mainly because of her "Blink" and "Recall" abilities. Because of this, she's capable of being a huge annoyance to opposing players. Although she comes with a mobility advantage, Tracer currently has the lowest health pool in the game at 150.

Top

Pulse Pistols:

Tracer's primary weapons. If you want to get the best out of her Pulse Pistols, they're most effective short range. They're decent mid ranged weapons, but they're ineffective long range weapons. Her low health pool and short range pistols support a hit-and-run play style.

  • I'd recommend looking into your game settings, as well as mouse settings ( If possible) to get an idea of what Sensitivity works best for you. Remember, this is strictly personal preference. Someones game settings may not work for someone else. For example, my in-game sensitivity for Tracer is currently 4.90, and my mouse DPI ('Dots Per Inch') is 1600. Again, this'll vary for everyone. My exact settings may not work for you so explore, do some research, and be willing to test things out

Blink:

Successfully using Blink equates to how much of a disrupting force Tracer can be. Blink allows you to cover gaps and surprise people by coming from a direction they don't expect. A Blink recharges about every 3 seconds, and she can store up to three at once. Blink is your go to tool for stalling, escaping, dodging, and chasing. KITE, KITE, KITE. The following are some ways you could improve with this ability. Of course, this only gets better with time and practice.

  • I personally use 'Right Click' to Blink as opposed to using 'Shift'. Figure out what works best for you.
  • Familiarize yourself with your surroundings (Map knowledge and awareness)
  • Conserving Blinks more often. Remember, you're capable of using 'WASD' like every other character to move. Don't get too used to Blink ;). The more Blinks you have at your disposal, the more escape/kill/stall potential you possess.

Recall:

Recall enables Tracer to reposition. The exact number of where she rewinds is three seconds back. Recall fully reloads her Pulse Pistols, and allows Tracer to gain back lost health. Recall also keeps in mind of what direction you were facing 3 seconds prior, this could be an advantage or disadvantage depending on the situation. Most importantly, you can depend on Recall to instantly save you from threatening scenarios.

Recall counters the following Ultimates and Abilities:

D.Va- Self Distruct damage (Recall needs to be well timed)
Tracer- Pulse Bomb (If an opposing Tracer manages to tag you with her ult, simply Recall)
Junkrat- Rip Tire damage (Needs to be well timed)
Ana- Her Biotic Grenade. If it lands, Recall cleanses off the effects of her Biotic Grenade. Recall's pretty much your safety net when having to go up against Ana.
Widowmaker- Her Venom Mine.
Zenyatta- His Discord Orb. ( This is more so for desperate/tense situations. I wouldn't recommend blowing Recall as soon you get Discorded, that's a waste. If you get Discorded, simply get out of sight until the orb wears off. )

Pulse Bomb:

Pulse Bomb ready! Perhaps my favorite ability Tracer possesses. Pulse Bomb's capable of sticking on opposing Heroes and walls. Tracer's Pulse Bomb does area of effect damage. Slower moving targets are the perhaps the easiest targets to stick. You can really annoy some tanks with this ability. Pulse Bomb has the potential to be very impactful, especially against grouped up enemies.

The following abilities counter Pulse Bomb:

Winston- His Shield
Mei- Her Shift ability Cryo-Freeze, and her Great Wall of China
D.Va- Her Defense Matrix makes your Pulse Bomb go poof. Bait her Defense Matrix, then wait for it to come down. She's still very vulnerable from behind
Reaper- His Shift ability Wraith Form
Zarya- Her shields. Bait the shield and wait for it to come off
Genji- His E ability, Deflect
Mercy- Her Ultimate. "Oh, you stuck my Pharah. I'll just REVIVE her."
Tracer- Her Recall (E) ability
Reinhardt- His Shield. Reinhardts back side is still fairly vulnerable.
Sombra- Her Translocator (Teleport Ability).
Orisa- Her 'Fortify' (Shift Ability) and her shield. Simply avoid Pulse Bombing a full health Orisa or bait Fortify. Fortify temporarily reduces damage she takes.
Doomfist- His ultimate ability Meteor Strike.
Moira- Her Shift ability 'Fade'

Easy

Mercy: Fairly easy to deal with. Can be a bit more troubling to focus, especially if she has someone she can fly up to for safety such as Widowmaker or Pharah. Try prioritizing her as often as possible, especially during crucial moments of games. Her ultimate's capable of being very impactful.

Lúcio: Annoying to deal with, but certainly doable. Same with Mercy, try focusing him during crucial moments of games. His Ultimate's capable of really stalling a game out.

Zenyatta: Pretty fun to mess with. Low health pool and low mobility. Respect his Discord Orb when it's on you. Simply get out of sight until it wears off.

D.Va: She can't keep up with ye. Use that mobility to your advantage.

Orisa: Fairly minimal threat due to her serious lack of mobility and her rather large hitbox. You're too mobile for her. Those four legs of hers don't mean a darn thang. Tracer's also capable of blinking or recalling out of her "Halt!" ability (Mini-Graviton Surge). Try to get rid of her drum once she uses her ult. It's a very powerful tool in terms of damage output for her whole team.

Average

Bastion: If you aren't aware of a Bastion on the opposing side, you're probably dead. If you don't have Pulse Bomb and you need to take care of that pesky Bastion in Sentry mode, approach him from behind, as his head is located behind him during Sentry mode.

Pharah: You guys sorta can't do anything to each other. She's most vulnerable near the ground, take her out when you have that chance. She's still capable of dealing a lot of damage if you're not dodging her attacks.

Torbjörn: He's super vulnerable without a turret up, therefore you're capable of taking him out because of your kiting abilities. Respect a maxed out Molten Cored Turret, you don't quite have an answer for those. Level 1 turrets can be dealt with easily. Level 2 turrets might need a Pulse Bombing if someone on your team isn't taking care of them or if it's stopping your team from capturing an objective. Do not underestimate his short range weapon damage!

Mei: She's super vulnerable without her Shift ability (Cryo-Freeze). Avoid being too predictable/stationary as she's capable of chunking you with her Right Click.

Zarya: Do not use anything when those shields are up and avoid underestimating a charged up Zarya! Other than that, her attacks are pretty simple to dodge and kite, especially thanks to your Blink ability.

Reaper: Don't get too close, and you're peachy. He's super vulnerable when his Shift ability Wraith Form is down.

Reinhardt: He's slow, but deadly. You'll still have to respect his damage capabilities. Reinhardt's one of the easier Pulse Bomb targets.

Symmetra: She isn't difficult to kill because of your mobility. Avoid being baited into a room full of turrets or she'll have a huge edge. You're probably dead if you don't have Recall or a few Blinks at your disposal. Point is, always be cautious of small, narrow areas when going up against Symmetra's.

Sombra: This match-up requires you to be fairly aware of any opposing Sombra's, watch your back. Her right click ability 'Hack' is her main threat against you, considering you wont be able to use Blink and Recall. Tracer heavily relies on her kit during altercations because of her little health pool. Try successfully blinking away from Hacking attempts, or simply shoot or melee her to interrupt the hacking attempts. You dish out more damage, and your mobility's simply more convenient during duels compared to Sombra. Just don't get hacked! I can't stress this enough :'>

Moira: Respect her balls. That is all. Her Purple ball + her auto-locking ways in a tight space will certainly force you to recall. If your recall is down, YOU'RE most likely down. You need Recall versus Moira, especially in tight spaces. Moira's vulnerable when her Shift ability Fade (her only escape) is on cool down, as well as when she has used one of her Orbs. Keep an eye on these things!

Top

Care

Widowmaker: If you're not aware of an opposing Widowmaker, yikes. Once you spot her, try taking caring of her if you're capable of getting to the location she's sniping from. Beware of Venom Mines before proceeding.

Hanzo: Don't get in close quarters with a Hanzo, he has a huge advantage in little rooms/hallways because of Scatter Arrow. Proceed with care when confronting Hanzo, you don't want to be too predictable/linear as he's capable of deleting you with a headshot. Use your Blinks for dodging purposes while inflicting damage.

Winston: Avoid shooting the shield when you're being confronted by a Winston, and continually focus on him while kiting. Having Recall at your disposal is crucial, especially if you need to regain lost health.

Tracer: Cat & mouse games. That about sums up this match up. You'll have to be aware of opposing Tracers. Tracers are lethal if you don't see 'em coming. The first person to use Recall in this match up is at a disadvantage.

Genji: Avoid shooting him when he has Deflect up. Don't let him get you low enough to where he's able to finish you off with his Swift Strike (Shift) ability. You'll definitely need Recall at your disposal to have the upper hand in this one

Soldier: 76: You don't want a prolonged fight with 76. His sustain and Helix Rocket damage is nothing to laugh at. 76 is capable of inflicting serious amounts of damage if you're not careful. Avoid being linear/ stationary when going up against one.

Ana: Ana's easily the toughest support to deal with as Tracer considering you have to be fairly close to deal sufficient damage. It's ideal you're aware of whether or not her Sleep Dart's on Cooldown. She'll be able to combo you rather easily if it successfully lands. As Tracer, you're capable of dealing with Ana because of the mobility she heavily lacks in. It's quite possible to overwhelm her with Blinks. Use Recall as a safety net if she lands her Biotic Grenade.

Doomfist: You'll want to be very aware of whether or not his Rocket Punch ability is up. You'll be good as dead if you're struck by this ability. Other than that, he's a large and fairly vulnerable hero when his abilities are on cool down, specifically Rocket Punch.

Top

Threatening

Roadhog: Hooks = death. Sometime's you'll be able to get away with 'Recall', but you're most likely dead if you get caught by one of his hooks, rather not risk it. It's best to try predicting the hook, or even baiting it during an altercation with Roadhog. Respect his short-range damage and be mindful of the zoning capability a Roadhog can possess. This'll make it harder to go for targets such as the enemy supports.

Junkrat: J-Rat can be absolutely annoying for you if you're not careful. You'll want to be very wary of traps. If you happen to step on one, you're more than likely dead. His Concussion Mine is great for close-ranged brawls against you, play it safe. Get rid of the trap, and don't get too close. J-Rat's very vulnerable if you catch him in the process of using his Rip Tire.

McCree: Avoid fighting McCree if you're unsure whether or not he has Flashbang at his disposal. You're capable of baiting Flashbang. He isn't as difficult to deal with once Flashbang is out of the way. You can take McCree out during the duration of his High Noon as long as he's unaware of your presence. A skilled and patient McCree is capable of dealing with Tracer rather easily

In this part of the guide, I'll be explaining a general way of going about playing Tracer in each game mode.

Escort (Payload), Assault and Hybrid Mode

This goes for both offense and defense. You'll want to constantly be in the back line as you're most effective there. There's power in numbers. The more teammates you have alive, the more aggressive you can be. If your team is at a disadvantage in terms of how many people are alive, advance with caution. This is very important: You're better off dying as Tracer upon losing a team fight in order to not stagger your re-spawn time. This'll allow you to group with your whole team in order to push effectively., UNLESS you're certain that you can retreat to safety.

Use your team, value your team!

Try prioritizing the following Heroes, these are fairly squishy targets that are capable of doing a lot for their team if they're not taken care of.

Mercy- First and foremost, she's a healer. Second, her Ultimate can be massive during crucial moments.
Lúcio- Also heals and provides speed boosts. His ult's capable of buying time for his team.
Zenyatta- He heals allies and can debuff your teammates. You don't want him ulting during crucial moments.
Widowmaker- If she's not being taken care of, you'll have to see if you can do it yourself.
Symmetra- You'll constantly want to be looking for and destroying Teleporters. They'll prove to be quite useful if left unchecked.
Ana - Nano boost too scary, try to disrupt her every chance you get. She's typically lurking in her teams back line, as do most other supports. As Tracer, their back line equals your playground. Take care of that pesky support sniper!

Control (King of the Hill)

In Control games, you'll mainly want to constantly be outside of the point disrupting foes, and dealing damage. If your team doesn't have control of the point, you'll need to aid them in capturing it by fighting alongside them. As you only have 150 health, staying inside the point isn't exactly ideal since the enemy team will be heavily focused on capturing and defending it. You'll only really want to be in the point if you're trying to stall for your team, or if you need to stand on the point for capturing purposes.

The following characters are crucial to take care of in Control maps:

Mercy- High impact ultimate.
Lúcio- Ultimate's capable of buying time for his team.
Zenyatta- High impact ultimate.
Mei- High impact ult. Mei's great for Control because of her crowd control heavy kit.
Reaper- High impact ultimate. It's absolutely crucial you watch your flanks for Reapers Deathblossom, especially during crucial moments.
Junkrat- Capable of dealing high, consistent damage. You'll want to try and put a stop to it if he goes unchecked.
Ana - She's typically lurking in her teams back line, as do most other supports. As Tracer, their back line equals your playground. Nano Boosted Genji Ultimate? Nano Boosted Reinhardt!? Nano Boosted McCree!? Nano Boosted anything? No thank you. Disrupt her every chance you get.
