Junkrat is mainly weak to hitscan characters. Think of Junkrat like a Reaper with much less survivability. However, he is capable of wiping out an entire team if played carefully.
Junkrat definitely fits the "master criminal" description, albeit a mastermind that's bordering on lunacy. His abilities remind me of Demoman from Team-fortress 2.
The Defensive Role makes sense given Concussion Mine and Steel Trap. I've been brewing a bit with him (without actually playing him):
Frag Launcher
- To be used long-range, preferably from a high point to maximize bounce
- Can bounce over walls or shields
- Theoretically he can bounce off a wall, allowing for interesting angles of attack (such as around Reinhardt's Barrier Field)
Concussion Mine
- Use to launch enemies off of map or high places (like in the Trailer) and kill them from fall damage (how likely is this?)
- Launch people off of objectives
- Use Concussion Mine to launch opponents into teammate's abilities such as Reinhardt's charge
- Concussion Mine an opponent into a Steel Trap
